Get Involved In Echo Park

Wednesday, August 11, 2010 there is a 7pm meeting of the Greater Echo Park Elysian Neighborhood Council for the residents of Echo Park to discuss the development referred to as the “Sunset Flats” which will be destroying 6 turn of the century affordable rental homes for the purpose of building a 5 story (higher than allowed in this zone), 64 units apartment building.

Wednesday, August 11, 2010 – 7:00 p.m.
1572 Sunset Boulevard Los Angeles, CA 90026
(entrance off of Echo Park Avenue)

This is of special interest to those in the Washington Heights Tract around Sunset/ Alvarado/ Elsinore/ Mohawk/ Waterloo since it will be creating a block to block building from the commercial area of Sunset all the way to Elsinore (the residential street behind this location.)

Do you care about the landscape of Echo Park? Does it concern you that historical houses are being destroyed or that overly large buildings that are not architecturally flattering to the Echo Park neighborhood are being erected haphazardly anywhere someone thinks they can make a buck?

We urge to get involved and come to a meeting to learn about the community issues going on in Echo Park.  We are not anti-development but we’d like to encourage the right kinds of development that enhances Echo Park instead of quietly standing by and watching developers do whatever they want.

This is the agenda of the meeting:

Discussion and/or Possible Action on continued agenda item relative to the proposed 142,126 Square Foot mixed use project of 64 residential units with a new floor area of 65,437 square feet, a net commercial area of 9,609 square feet and garage/storage/circ. area of 67,080 square feet and density bonus with a 2 on Menu incentives; Transition over a Zone Line, FAR and One off Menu incentive for height at 2229 Sunset Boulevard.
